Welcome to the
fourteenth annual Jeffersonian Thanksgiving Festival in historic downtown Charlottesville. Over sixty events and activities are designed to let you experience what our community was like during the American Revolution between 1776 and 1781. You will step back in history and mingle with famous statesmen, soldiers, craftsmen, clergymen, and citizens who gather for a Day of
Public Thanksgiving that was proclaimed by Virginia's Governor Thomas Jefferson.
The festival involves battle reenactments, period music, games and craft demonstrations, carriage rides, dancing, concerts, lectures, and more. About 150 costumed professional and amateur living historians and dramatic artists portray famous people from the past who lived or visited the area. Many of these people will be interpreted using their own original writings, either in short dramatic discussions and meetings, or in informal conversations as you meet them roaming about the newly-renovated Court Square (or other nearby venues).
Most events are free. Public parking is available streetside, or in the public lots on Market or Water Streets. In the event of rain or extremely cold weather, most
events will still take place but at alternate rain sites. The latest information regarding events, schedules and venues is available on the website or at information tables throughout the festival.
Make plans to come give thanks as people did in Jefferson's day at the thirteenth annual Jeffersonian Thanksgiving Festival!
